Photo guidelines

Last updated on May 10, 2026

Uploading a profile photo of yourself is a requirement to fully use the platform. A genuine photo of you allows people to feel more comfortable and safe, knowing who to expect when meeting up in person. Besides that, other members of the community will be more likely to interact with you once you have added a photo of yourself! Avoid using a profile photo with multiple people pictured in it. A simple photo of your face usually works best.

For both profile photos and gallery photos (available to those with Strong Verification), clear, friendly photos showing your face help build trust.

When creating an event, uploading a photo for the event will increase the likelihood that people will attend, and it also can showcase the event place or activity.

When you upload photos to Couchers.org, please remember the following:

  • Like all content on our website, your photos cannot be sexual or sexually charged. We want to keep our community safe and focused on couch surfing, so we do not allow images that include full or partial nudity or any hint of sexual activities, or that could reasonably be interpreted as sexual.

  • It is also not allowed to use a profile photo or gallery photos that misrepresent who you are.

  • All uploaded photos must be your own, and if others appear in them, you must have their consent to share the image.
